Continued ‘Funding Winter’ Leads to Further Decrease in Q1 Funding for African Tech Startups
The "funding winter" persists for tech startups in Africa and globally, with funding in Q1 dropping over 50% to $310 million compared to the previous year. Despite 406 startups raising $2.4 billion in 2023, marking a reset for the industry, the funding decline continued into 2024, with Q1 witnessing a 52.3% decrease in investment.
While the number of funded ventures slightly decreased from Q1 2023, the rate of decline is slowing, but the stagnant funding levels suggest a continued decrease for African tech ventures in 2024.….continue reading
