New CBN Guidelines on POS: ā¦1.2m Cap, ISO 20022, Geo-Fenced Devices

In August 2025, the CBN set the industryās technology foundation by mandating ISO 20022 payments messaging and mandatory geo-tagging/geofencing of terminals, with clear certification timelines.
On Monday, the apex bank released a circular that operationalizes that agendaāadding transaction caps (ā¦1.2m per agent; ā¦100k per individual), monthly, data-rich reporting (due by the 10th), designated accounts/wallets, real-time processing with instant reversals, public agent registers, and graduated sanctions.

Airtel Africa Tests Satellite Internet on Moving Train in Sub-Saharan Africa

Airtel Africa has achieved a major milestone by successfully testing satellite-powered internet connectivity on a moving train ā the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. Conducted over a 669-kilometre route, the pilot ā in partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb ā maintained uninterrupted high-speed internet with speeds up to 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, even across remote and forested areas.

Nigeria Appoints New Startup Representatives to National Digital Innovation Council

Nigeria has announced the election of four new startup representatives to the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NCDIE), a key body driving the implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act. The representatives, elected through the Startup Consultative Forum (SCF) under NITDAās Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), will serve for two years.

Tagaddodās $26.3M raise signals a new phase for Africaās waste-to-fuel supply chain

Egyptian cleantech startup Tagaddod has raised $26.3 million in Series A funding to expand its digital platform that sources and certifies renewable, waste-based feedstocks for the biofuels and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industries. The round was led by The Arab Energy Fund (TAEF) with participation from FMO, Verod-Kepple Africa Ventures (VKAV), and A15.

Capitec eyes global expansion amid strong earnings growth

Capitec, South Africaās largest bank by customer base with over 25 million clients, is preparing for international expansion, marking a major strategic shift beyond its home market.
In its latest half-year results (ending August 2025), Capitec reported a 26% rise in headline earnings to R8 billion, partly driven by its European and Latin American loan subsidiary AvaFin, which saw loan disbursements soar 94% year-on-year. Capitec now owns over 95% of AvaFin, which contributed R121 million to group earnings.

EduLife expands into Gauteng with acquisition of Arrow Academy

EduLife, a fast-growing South African private schools group backed by Sanari Capital, has expanded into Gauteng Province through the acquisition of Arrow Academy in Centurion, near Pretoria.
Arrow Academy, which serves around 400 learners, brings EduLifeās total enrolment to over 4,000 students across its campuses. The group plans to expand the Centurion site to include a high school, strengthening its presence in the province.
Founded with The Academy of Excellence in Bloemfontein, EduLife has become the largest private education provider in the Free State and has also expanded into the Eastern Cape.
