 šŸ¦BANKING

CBN Denies Polaris Bank Liquidation Rumours

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed rumours that Polaris Bank is facing liquidation, calling the claims ā€œfakeā€ and urging the public to rely on verified sources.

The speculation falsely suggested the bank failed recapitalisation, was at risk of losing its license, and might be acquired by industrialist Razaq Okoya. In reality, Nigeria’s banking sector is stable, with total assets exceeding ₦80 trillion, strong capital adequacy ratios, improved non-performing loan levels, and growing digital adoption.

The CBN emphasised that ongoing recapitalisation reforms are designed to strengthen banks and absorb economic shocks—not an indicator of distress. The statement also highlights the sensitive role of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) in safeguarding depositors and why false intervention claims can trigger panic.

Overall, the reassurance reflects a proactive approach to maintaining confidence amid regulatory changes and ongoing banking evolution......….continue reading

The rollout leverages MediaKing’s experience in Europe and reflects a strategic bet on Nigeria’s growing digital economy, aiming to expand internet access, drive digital inclusion, and provide a sustainable, scalable model for high-capacity public Wi-Fi across African cities.....….continue reading

U.S. Embassy Abuja Suspends Visa Services

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja has temporarily suspended visa appointment services amid escalating security risks in Nigeria’s capital. The move follows directives from the U.S. Department of State for non-emergency personnel and their families to leave Abuja due to threats including terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and limited access to healthcare. While appointments in Abuja are on hold, visa processing continues at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, and emergency services remain available for U.S. citizens under specific conditions. Applicants are advised to monitor emails for updates on rescheduled appointments. The suspension reflects ongoing caution as the embassy responds to the region’s volatile security environment..........….continue reading
