Dangote Group Powers Nigeria’s Green Transition with $280 million CNG Investment

Google is deepening its commitment to Africa’s digital transformation with a $5.8 million investment in AI skilling initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa. This funding will support organizations working to equip individuals, businesses, and communities with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-powered world.

The announcement, made by Matt Brittin, President of Google Europe, Middle East and Africa, during his visit to Nigeria and Kenya, highlights Google’s focus on fostering a deeper understanding of AI across society. The funding will support a range of programs, including:

  • Training for workers and students: Equipping individuals with foundational AI and cybersecurity skills to prepare them for the future of work.

Pick n Pay to Exit Nigeria After Less Than Five Years, Citing Losses

South African grocery retailer Pick n Pay is exiting the Nigerian market, selling its 51% share in a joint venture less than five years after entering the market. This strategic move, announced by CEO Sean Summers, is part of a broader restructuring plan aimed at addressing the company’s financial challenges and consolidating its focus on its home market.

Pick n Pay’s foray into Nigeria began in 2020 through a partnership with A.G. Leventis (Nigeria). However, the venture has faced headwinds, contributing to the retailer’s widening half-year losses.
