Nigeria Embraces Digital Transformation with Launch of e-CRVS and National Geospatial Data Repository

In a significant move towards enhancing national planning and public service delivery, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the launch of the Digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (e-CRVS) and the National Geospatial Data Repository. During a ceremony at the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the critical importance of accurate data on Nigeria’s population demographics for the country’s strategic planning and development efforts.

The e-CRVS is designed to be an integrative platform, which according to President Tinubu, will enhance service delivery to Nigerians and become a central repository of identity data for federal agencies, including the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Police, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and other security agencies.……Continue reading

Sony has now sold over 46.6 million PS5 consoles

With the end of this month being Black Friday, and the festive season shopping kicking off in earnest thereafter, Sony will be placing plenty of importance on the sale of its PS5 consoles, but so far, Sony has had a blockbuster quarter when it comes to PlayStation 5 sales.

The company has sold 4.9 million PS5 units in its second financial quarter ending on September 30, bringing the total number of consoles sold to 46.6 million. It didn’t quite reach last year’s holiday figures, but it still moved 1.6 million units more than the same period in 2022.….Continue reading

Amazon layoffs continue, eliminates jobs in the music division

Amazon has begun cutting jobs in its Music division, the company announced on Wednesday, confirming the latest of several rounds of layoffs over the past year that have affected more than 27,000 employees of the retail giant. Employees in Latin America, North America and Europe received notices that their jobs had been eliminated Wednesday, according to people familiar with the matter. Ford Motor Company’s South African division has declared an investment of 5.2 billion rand (approximately $281 million) to manufacture a hybrid model in the country. This significant investment underscores the urgency for the South African government to develop a robust electric vehicle policy amidst rapid global shifts toward sustainable automotive technology.

South Africa’s automotive sector, a critical component of its economy representing 5% of the GDP and sustaining over 100,000 jobs, is predominantly export-oriented. Uber unveils electric vehicles for Uber Package in Cape Town

Uber commemorated its 10-year anniversary in South Africa by announcing its first electric vehicle (EV) fleet, which will be used for its Uber Package delivery service.

It is also introducing new mobility and delivery products, as well as expanding its existing services to new geographies in the country.
