Access Bank acquires majority stake in African Banking Corporation of Tanzania

In a strategic move to increase its footprint in Tanzania, Access Bank Plc. has successfully acquired a majority equity stake in African Banking Corporation of Tanzania (ABCT) Limited, previously owned by Atlas Mara Limited.

With the completion of this transaction, ABCT will merge with the consumer, private, and business banking operations of Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania, which Access Bank acquired earlier. Binance reaches 200M users with $100B in assets under custody

Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world by daily volume, announced on June 8 it had reached 200 million global users. 

No other exchange can boast nearly as many users. However, these figures are self-reported.

In true celebratory fashion, Binance marked the occasion across its social media platforms by framing the 200 million user mark as a milestone on the company’s quest to onboard a billion, or one in every eight people on Earth...........continue reading

Cairo-based startup Sahl secures $6 million in Series A and seed funding rounds

Cairo-based startup Sahl announced that it has secured $6 million in Series A and seed funding to advance its mission of becoming a one-stop shop for household bills in collaboration with government entities. The funding round was led by Ayady for Investment and Development, a prominent Egyptian investment firm known for backing innovative startups. Existing investors, including Egypt Pay, Delta Electronic Systems, and E-Finance, also participated in this funding round.

With this substantial infusion of capital, Sahl is poised to transform into a comprehensive financial services provider. WWDC 2024 Recap: Apple unveils iOS 18, introduces Apple Intelligence AI, and additional innovations

Apple unveiled a couple of exciting updates on Monday at the keynote of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, all of which are slated for release in the upcoming major software rollouts scheduled for the autumn of this year. The forthcoming iterations of Apple’s operating systems, namely iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, are set to introduce a host of significant enhancements.

One of the headline features is the integration of Rich Communication Services (RCS), which promises to elevate the messaging experience for users. Additionally, Apple announced the debut of a brand-new Passwords application, designed to streamline password management across devices.

The iPhone and iPad are also receiving a redesigned Calculator application, which has been reimagined to offer a more intuitive and user-friendly interface. Moreover, Apple’s suite of software will be enriched with a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, courtesy of the newly introduced “Apple Intelligence” framework. Elon Musk threatens to ban Apple devices if it integrates OS with OpenAI

Elon Musk

On Monday, Apple announced a couple of new features across its apps and operating platforms and a partnership with OpenAI to bring the ChatGPT technology to its devices. And it seems Elon Musk is not happy about it.

According to him on a social media post, "That is an unacceptable security violation, and visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage."

Apple said it had built AI with privacy "at the core" and it would use a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing to power those features……read more
