Elon Musk

Elon Musk’s xAI, an ambitious artificial intelligence venture, has successfully raised $6 billion in a series B funding round, signaling strong investor confidence in Musk’s vision for the future of AI. This substantial financial backing positions xAI as a formidable player in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, poised to make significant advancements in the field.

The recent $6 billion raise is one of the largest funding rounds in the AI sector, drawing interest from a mix of traditional venture capital firms, private equity investors, and strategic partners. Leading this funding round were prominent names including Valor Equity Partners, Vy Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal and Kingdom Holding, amongst others.

Musk confirmed that the investment round was valued at $18 billion pre-money.

Pick n Pay Asap! Outpaces Rivals, Becomes South Africa’s #2 On-Demand Grocery Service

Pick n Pay’s on-demand grocery service, Asap!, has emerged as a dominant force in the South African market, securing the second-place position among on-demand grocery providers. This achievement comes as the retailer reported a 74.4% surge in online sales for the 52 weeks ending February 25, 2024, primarily fueled by Asap!’s rapid growth.

Pick n Pay attributes Asap!’s success to its focus on delivering a seamless and convenient online shopping experience. The retailer continues to invest in enhancing its online platform and expanding its delivery network to reach more customers across the country.

This follows YouTube’s August announcement in a blog post that it would be testing a new app feature on Android phones, allowing users to search for a song by humming or recording it for over three seconds.

While this feature isn’t entirely new (Google Assistant has had similar functionality for years), it’s faster and more integrated into the YouTube Music experience. In tests, it quickly identified recordings and even recognised most hummed, sung, or whistled tunes..........continue reading

RIP Kabosu: Dog That Inspired Dogecoin (DOGE) is no more

Kabosu

Popular dog Kabosu, the face of dogecoin and several other meme tokens, died early Friday, her owner wrote in a blog post. She was over 17 years old.

“We will be holding a farewell party for Kabo-chan on Sunday, May 26th . It will be held at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1pm to 4pm,” the blog reads.

Kabosu’s viral meme picture inspired the creation of dogecoin (DOGE) in 2013, initially starting off as a joke currency. DOGE’s success later birthed a whole cohort of dog-themed tokens such as shiba inu (SHIB) and floki (FLOKI), which have since cumulatively become one of the industry’s biggest sectors.........continue reading
