💵REMITTANCES

Flutterwave Partners Xoom to Expand Remittances to Nigeria

Flutterwave has partnered with Xoom, PayPal’s international money transfer service, to enable faster and more reliable remittances into Nigerian bank accounts. Through the partnership, funds sent via Xoom will be processed by Flutterwave, converted to naira, and deposited directly into accounts at major banks, including Access Bank, UBA, Zenith Bank, First Bank, and GTBank.

The collaboration targets Nigeria’s growing remittance market, which received over $20 billion in personal remittances in 2024, making it the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa. Flutterwave says the partnership will reduce settlement delays and improve access to cross-border payments for families, freelancers, and businesses. By combining Xoom’s global reach with Flutterwave’s local payment infrastructure, both companies aim to make international money transfers faster, more secure, and more accessible for millions of Nigerians.

💰PAYMENTS

Klump Partners Jumia to Introduce Instalment Payments

Klump has partnered with Jumia to bring buy now, pay later (BNPL) instalment payments to shoppers in Nigeria. The integration allows eligible customers to split the cost of qualifying purchases into manageable payments instead of paying the full amount upfront, making higher-value products more affordable.

The partnership expands Klump’s presence in Nigeria’s e-commerce ecosystem while helping Jumia merchants increase conversions and average order values through flexible payment options. As inflation continues to pressure household spending and access to traditional consumer credit remains limited, the collaboration offers Nigerian shoppers a more accessible way to manage purchases and supports the growing adoption of embedded finance in the country.

🫆IDENTITY MANAGEMENT

South Africa to Deploy 600 Biometric Scanners

South Africa's Department of Home Affairs plans to deploy 600 handheld biometric scanners to enable immigration officers to verify a person's legal status in real time using fingerprint and facial recognition.

The devices, part of the country's new Biometric Case Management System, will connect directly to the Home Affairs database, reducing reliance on physical identity documents and helping detect forged passports or permits.

The rollout forms part of South Africa's broader push to digitise immigration enforcement amid tighter border security measures. The rugged Android-based devices will also scan documents and QR codes, support new biometric enrolments, and operate in field conditions with all-day battery life. The procurement tender closes July 24, with deployment expected later this year following successful pilot trials that demonstrated faster and more accurate identity verification.
