Elon Musk’s Neuralink cleared to launch clinical trials in Canada
Neuralink, the brain-implant company co-founded by Elon Musk, is expanding its groundbreaking research into Canada. With Health Canada’s regulatory approval, Toronto Western Hospital will serve as the first non-U.S. site for Neuralink’s clinical trials, marking a major step in the company’s journey to revolutionize neural technology.
The clinical trials, operating under the CAN-PRIME study, aim to assess Neuralink’s brain-computer interface (BCI). This implant translates neural activity into digital commands, enabling individuals with quadriplegia caused by conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or spinal cord injuries to control external devices like computers or smartphones with their thoughts. The trials will also evaluate the safety of Neuralink’s surgical robot and implant procedures...……continue reading

Instagram’s Algorithm Reset Feature Will Help You Manage Irrelevant Content On Your Feed Posts
Instagram has introduced a new feature that lets users reset their recommendations algorithm with a simple tap. This tool offers a way to wipe the slate clean, clearing the app’s memory of past interactions, likes, and habits to provide a fresh start for exploring content.
The new reset button is part of Instagram’s “Content Preferences” settings. By selecting the “Reset Content Suggestion” option, users can restart how their Explore, Feed, and Reels recommendations are shaped. This feature doesn’t impact your followers or ad topics, but it resets the algorithm’s understanding of your preferences. Instagram assures users that the algorithm will start adapting again based on future interactions. However, the reset action is irreversible, offering a definitive break from past content associations...........continue reading

Kenya Seeks Foreign Help to Regulate Apps Violating Data Privacy Laws
Data Protection Commissioner Immaculate Kassait
Kenya is intensifying its efforts to enforce data privacy compliance, particularly targeting multinational companies that store sensitive user data on foreign servers beyond Kenya’s legal reach. This practice, often employed by apps processing Kenyan data, poses significant challenges for enforcement under the country’s Data Protection Act (DPA). To address this issue, the East-African country is seeking assistance from foreign governments through Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) agreements, aiming to strengthen cross-border enforcement against such violations.
This development, announced by Data Protection Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, aims to formalise legal cooperation between Kenya and other jurisdictions. MLA agreements will allow Kenyan authorities to collaborate on investigations and prosecutions of companies that breach data protection laws. These efforts will be guided by Kenya’s Mutual Legal Assistance Act of 2011, which already facilitates international cooperation on various legal matters, including money laundering...……continue reading

High Court to Investigate Starlink Pricing Amid Jamii Telecom Protest in Kenya
American satellite internet provider Starlink, led by Elon Musk, continues to stir controversy in Kenya’s internet service market. Entering the country in July 2023, Starlink quickly claimed a 0.5% market share, primarily by offering competitive pricing to challenge established players like Safaricom, Jamii Telecommunications, and Zuku. However, its aggressive pricing strategies have sparked legal battles and regulatory scrutiny.
The latest development sees Jamii Telecommunications filing a protest with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), accusing Starlink of predatory pricing. The protest, tabled in Kenya’s High Court, highlights Starlink’s June 2024 announcement of a standard 50GB plan for KSh 1,300 per month. Just months later, Musk introduced a new “Starlink Mini” package priced at half the original, which Jamii claims undermines fair competition......……continue reading
