MTN CEO Karl Toriola and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti

Abia State is laying the groundwork for a digitally connected future—and MTN Nigeria is right at the center of that vision. In a landmark partnership unveiled in Umuahia, MTN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abia State Government that promises to expand broadband access, drive digital inclusion, and accelerate economic growth across the state.

At its core, the collaboration is about turning technology into a driver of opportunity for businesses, civil servants, and everyday citizens in Abia. Six key pillars form the foundation of the MoU. They are -

  • Expanding Network Coverage

  • Device Financing for Civil Servants

šŸ’¼ BUSINESS

Omniretail, PalmPay, Remedial Health Lead the Pack in FT’s 2025 Fastest-Growing African Firms List

Despite operating in a challenging economic landscape, Nigerian companies have shown extraordinary resilience and innovation, topping the Financial Times’ 2025 ranking of Africa’s fastest-growing companies. Compiled in partnership with research firm Statista, the annual ranking highlights 130 businesses across the continent with the highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2020 and 2023.

What’s most striking in this year’s list is that the top three companies are all Nigerian, underscoring Nigeria’s emergence as a powerhouse for entrepreneurial success in Africa’s fragmented and competitive business environment.. They are Omniretail, PalmPay and Remedial Health.…..…continue reading

JAMB Confirms 379,997 Candidates Will Retake 2025 UTME Starting May 16

After weeks of tension, confusion, and countless social media cries, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially confirmed that 379,997 candidates will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The rescheduled exams will begin on Thursday, May 16, across six states — Lagos, Imo, Anambra, Oyo, Abia, and Ebonyi — which were identified as locations where technical issues disrupted the original exam process.

For many candidates, this year’s UTME was nothing short of chaos. From login failures to blank screens and system freezes, students across several states found themselves unable to complete their exams — and in some cases, not even begin them.……continue reading

šŸ‘ SAVINGS

Exclusive: ā€œEvery Time a Mother Breastfeeds, She Saves—Into a Digital Walletā€

There’s a noticeable silence that surrounds discussions where women talk about money and motherhood together. It’s as if the room isn’t prepared for it, and the topic feels too sensitive, too common, or too significant to address all at once. But Herconomy didn’t wait for permission to bring this conversation to light. They built Breastmilk Money.

When Innovation Village reached out to the team behind Breastmilk Money—curious about the thinking that turned a cultural act into a financial tool—their response wasn’t just thoughtful, it was deeply intentional. They peeled back the layers on what it means to design a product that doesn’t just serve women, but honours them. It’s not just a savings product. It’s not just a campaign. It’s a bold, quietly radical question: What if the most natural act of care—a mother feeding her child—could also grow her wealth?…....continue reading

āœ… BANKING

Everything You Need to Know About NRBVN for Diaspora Nigerians

So you live in the UK, Canada, or somewhere across the globe and someone says, ā€œYou need a BVN to open a Nigerian bank account.ā€ And you pause — because you’ve heard the horror stories. Long queues. Flights back home. Bureaucracy. Stress. Well, good news: that era might finally be over.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), has launched the Non-Resident BVN (NRBVN) platform — and it’s a game-changer for Nigerians living abroad.

This move didn’t just come out of nowhere. Recall that the NRBVN platform was first announced by CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso in October 2024 during a meeting with Nigerians in the diaspora at the World Bank and IMF summit in Washington D.C. Back then, he described it as a bold step to ensure every Nigerian — no matter where they live — can participate meaningfully in the country’s financial system.

For the first time ever, Nigerians in the diaspora can now register for a Bank Verification Number (BVN) without being physically present in Nigeria. It’s a win for access. A win for digital inclusion. And frankly, long overdue....……continue reading
