NCC Mandates Public Disclosure of Major Network Outages, Launches Transparent Reporting Portal

In a decisive move to enhance consumer protection and promote transparency, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a new directive compelling all telecommunications operators in Nigeria to publicly inform consumers about major service outages on their networks. The directive, which is now in effect, mandates that service providers disclose the cause of the outage, the affected areas, and the expected timeline for service restoration through appropriate media channels.
The directive applies to all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs – MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9mobile) , Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and other last-mile connectivity providers. In addition to disclosing service disruptions, operators are required to notify customers at least one week in advance of any planned outages.
According to the Commission, the goal is to instill a culture of accountability and responsiveness within Nigeria’s telecom sector, while ensuring that consumers are kept informed and adequately compensated when services are interrupted......……continue reading

Kenya to sell 35% stake in Safaricom to raise $1.1 billion and plug budget gaps

Kenya is preparing to undertake its largest privatization effort in nearly two decades, with plans to sell a significant portion of its 34.9% stake in Safaricom, East Africa’s telecom giant. The goal: raise approximately KES 149 billion ($1.1 billion) by June 2026 to plug widening budget gaps without imposing new taxes on an already strained economy.
This strategic move places Safaricom—arguably the crown jewel of Kenya’s corporate sector—at the center of the country’s fiscal recovery plan. With public debt exceeding KES 11.4 trillion ($88.5 billion) and interest payments set to surpass KES 1 trillion ($7.7 billion) by year-end, the government is racing to find non-tax revenue solutions. A successful Safaricom sale could offer the Treasury a critical lifeline.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has acknowledged the stakes, stating, “There is talk that if we could offload more of our ownership of Safaricom, we are likely to get the KES 149 billion through privatization.” With tax collections falling short and inflation biting into household incomes, any attempt to raise taxes could face sharp public resistance......…continue reading

🔋 CLEAN ENERGY
NewGas Secures $18.2m to Boost Clean Cooking Revolution in Ghana

NewGas Cylinder Bottling Limited, a Ghanaian clean energy startup and subsidiary of Arch Holdings Limited, has clinched an $18.2 million senior debt facility to spearhead a nationwide campaign for safer and cleaner household cooking. The funding, provided by two major international funds—Africa Go Green Fund and Spark+ Africa Fund—will finance the establishment of a cutting-edge LPG bottling plant in Tema and the rollout of LPG cylinders to households across Ghana.
This financing marks a crucial step in Ghana’s energy transition journey, as the country strives to reduce its dependence on polluting fuels like firewood and charcoal. Currently, nearly 67% of Ghanaian households still rely on such biomass fuels, contributing to deforestation and indoor air pollution. With this strategic investment, NewGas is poised to reach over 3 million homes with cleaner and healthier cooking alternatives.
NewGas operates under the globally endorsed Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), which ensures that LPG cylinders are filled at safe, centralised locations and returned to consumers through an efficient distribution chain. This model, recommended by the World LPG Association, addresses longstanding adoption barriers such as the high cost of cylinders and safety concerns around household refills....…..…continue reading

Why Kai Cenat Turned Down Amazon Prime, Netflix & Tubi for Streamer University

In a media landscape dominated by billion-dollar streaming giants, Twitch megastar Kai Cenat is charting a bold new path—one that prioritizes creative independence over lucrative deals. The 23-year-old content creator recently revealed that he turned down offers from Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Tubi to bring his new project, Streamer University, to their platforms. Instead, Cenat opted to retain full creative control and launch it independently.
Launched in May 2025, Streamer University is a first-of-its-kind bootcamp (an all-expenses-paid weekend event) designed to mentor aspiring streamers and content creators. Held at the University of Akron, the weekend program (May 22-25) hosted 120 selected participants in person while also offering a virtual experience for thousands more. The goal: equip the next generation of online entertainers with practical skills, creator etiquette, and community-building strategies.
Cenat emphasized his commitment to maintaining creative control and ensuring the authenticity of the program.
“They wanted to turn this into a polished show. But this isn’t reality TV. It’s real life, real people, and real learning,” Cenat stated, highlighting his desire to keep the program grounded and true to its roots. The authenticity, spontaneity, and raw energy that define his streams—and now, Streamer University—would have been diluted in the process...…..…continue reading
