NDPC Probes Remita, Sterling Bank Over Data Breach

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission has launched a full investigation into Remita and Sterling Bank over an alleged massive data breach that may have exposed sensitive financial and personal data of millions of Nigerians.

The probe will assess the type of data compromised, security lapses, response measures, and risks to users. Reports suggest the breach could involve up to 3TB of data, including KYC documents, internal databases, and password hashes.

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, organizations are required to maintain strict data protection standards, and the regulator has warned of possible penalties for non-compliance.

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has disbursed nearly ₦9 billion to fund solar mini-grid projects across Taraba, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States, reinforcing Nigeria’s shift toward decentralised energy. The funding, backed by the DARES programme and a ₦100 billion partnership with Lotus Bank, supports developers including Havenhill and Faraday & Otstred.
