Plus:⚖️ Musk sues OpenAI, Microsoft for $134bn

Good Morning Valued Subscribers👋
Something interesting is happening quietly behind the scenes in Nigeria’s fintech space, and it is the kind of move that usually signals a bigger plan in motion. When a company that has already become infrastructure for thousands of businesses starts restructuring how it is organized, it is rarely just paperwork. It is often about scale, control, and preparing for what comes next.
At a glance, it might look like corporate housekeeping. But beneath the surface, this kind of restructuring often signals a company preparing for scale: new business lines, regional expansion, deeper partnerships, or even long-term plans around fundraising and governance. It is the sort of foundational change companies make when they stop thinking like a startup and start acting like an ecosystem builder.
For founders, operators, and anyone building on top of fintech platforms, this kind of move is worth paying attention to. It hints at a future where Paystack may play in more parts of the financial stack, potentially reshaping how businesses access payments, banking, and financial tools. Even if nothing feels different yet, this is one of those moments that tends to make more sense in hindsight — when the next announcements start to land.

Paystack forms holding company - The Stack Group

Paystack has restructured into a new holding company, The Stack Group (TSG), following sustained profitability and strong cash flows. TSG now oversees Paystack’s merchant payments business alongside its newer ventures, including the consumer app Zap, Paystack Microfinance Bank, and a venture studio for future products.
The new structure introduces shared ownership between Paystack’s CEO Shola Akinlade, Stripe, and employees, while simplifying regulation across payments, banking, and consumer finance. By separating its core payments business from newer, riskier ventures, Paystack is positioning itself as a multi-brand technology group with greater flexibility to build, scale, or shut down products without threatening its core operations......….continue reading

NCC Revamps Spectrum Management

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a draft Spectrum Roadmap for 2026–2030 to expand broadband capacity and prepare Nigeria’s telecoms sector for rapidly rising data demand. With mobile data usage per user expected to more than double by 2030 and total traffic nearly tripling, the NCC plans to release more spectrum to support 4G, 5G, and emerging technologies.
Key measures include opening the lower 6GHz and 60GHz bands to improve Wi-Fi performance, enable high-capacity wireless links, and reduce deployment costs. The roadmap also aligns with Nigeria’s digital economy goals and incorporates satellite-based Direct-to-Device connectivity to extend coverage to underserved areas. Overall, the strategy is aimed at boosting investment, innovation, and nationwide access to reliable digital services.......….continue reading

Musk sues OpenAI, Microsoft for $134bn

Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, seeking up to $134 billion in damages over claims that OpenAI abandoned its original nonprofit mission. Musk argues that OpenAI’s shift into a highly valued, Microsoft-backed commercial entity breached its founding principles and enabled both companies to generate massive profits from technology he helped establish.
The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI’s for-profit structure and close integration with Microsoft allowed “wrongfully obtained” gains, with damages estimates reflecting OpenAI’s valuation and Microsoft’s commercial benefits. OpenAI has rejected the claims as baseless, while Microsoft is expected to contest them. The case highlights growing tensions in the AI industry over governance, mission drift, and the commercialization of advanced AI systems.......….continue reading
