Sunil Taldar appointed Airtel Africa CEO as Segun Ogunsanya retires

Airtel Africa plc, has officially communicated the retirement of its CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, effective from July 1, 2024. Mr. Ogunsanya, who has been at the helm since 2021, played a pivotal role in the company’s success, notably leading the Nigeria Operations for nine years before assuming the Group CEO role. Under his leadership, Airtel Africa experienced sustained double-digit revenue growth, marked by innovative product launches across the continent.

Mr. Sunil Taldar has been appointed to take over as the new MD/CEO. Mr. Taldar, who joined the company in October 2023 as Director – Transformation, will work alongside Mr. Ogunsanya during the transition period.…..read more

OpenAI annualized revenue reportedly tops $1.6 billion

OpenAI has exceeded $1.6 billion in annualized revenue, marking a 20% increase from mid-October. This growth comes despite a leadership crisis in November, during which competitors sought OpenAI's customers. According to The Information, some members of OpenAI's management are optimistic that this figure could soar to $5 billion or more by the close of 2024.

The revenue is primarily generated through subscriptions to its chatbot ChatGPT and fees charged to software developers accessing its models via an application programming interface. Bloomberg, in December, reported OpenAI's pursuit of new funding at a valuation of $100 billion. This valuation implies a multiple of approximately 62 times its forward revenue, a steep figure compared to publicly-traded enterprise software companies but in line with its rapidly growing competitors. For example, Anthropic, a model developer, indicated to investors that it would generate $200 million in annualized revenue this year. Investors participating in its ongoing funding round are reportedly paying around 75 times forward revenue.
